SPM ENGLISH 1119 ORAL TEST (119/3 Or Paper 3) GUIDES AND TIPS


1. INTRODUCTION
The oral assessment 119/3 is carried out from April (Form 4) to June (Form 5) where students shall be assessed twice in Form 4 and once in Form 5.
This is a paper that would determine  a student's grade even though it is not a determine factor whether they will pass or fail the whole English 1119 subject.  
If a student joined school debate, public speaking, or won any English speaking competition, he or she will be awarded full mark on the 4th assessment.  If the student is not satisfied with his or her three assessments, the student can request for a 4th assessment.
The full mark of the oral assessment is 30 . Only the highest assessment mark will be chosen to be submitted.
2. SCHOOL BASED ORAL ASSESSMENT (SBOA)
The School-Based Oral Assessment (SBOA) consists of 5 Models. This section provides you with practices to help you prepare for the assessment. Main objectives of the test is to  assess the candidates’ ability to
  • use vocabulary and grammar accurately and correctly in context.
  • respond to enquiries made using correct pronunciation, intonation, rhythm and grammar
  • respond orally and express thoughts and feelings meaningfully in various given  situations
  • express ideas in context
  • give relevant information politely in response to enquiries made


2.1 FORMAT

The general format of School Based Oral Assessment are as below.

a. MODEL 2 AND MODEL 3 ABOVE ARE QUITE SIMILAR THAT IN FEW LITERATURE THEY WERE BEING GROUPED AS A SINGLE MODEL


b. USUALLY MODEL 5 IS RESERVED FOR FORM 5 STUDENTS EVEN THOUGH OTHER MODELS CAN STILL BE SELECTED BY A TEACHER FOR ASSESSING A STUDENT BASED ON HIS/HER LEVEL OF COMPETENCIES




2.2 TIPS
Here are  some tips to help you do well in the assessment.
1. Choose an activity or topic you are familiar with.
2. Prepare and practice at home or in front of  afriend.
3. Use correct pronunciation when you speak.
4. Check that your talk is free-error and seek the help of your teacher or a friend to go over your written piece before you present it.
5. Speak with confidence. You need some practice.
6. Do not memorize what you want to say so that you do not panic or forget the point.
7. Write your points on small cards. Refer to them if you forget during the presentation.
